Bangabandhu (Jamuna) Bridge

Bangabhandu Bridge, alternatively known as Jamuna Multi-purpose Bridge, is one of the largest bridges in South Asia. It first opened in Bangladesh in June, 1998 and serves as a connector between Dhaka and Sirajganj. It lies above the Jamuna River, which is one of the three major rivers in Bangladesh. The bridge is connected to the Trans-Asian Railway, which when fully completed will connect Bangladesh to Central Asia and northwest Europe. The bridge is also on the Asian Highway. This bridge has provided many benefits to the people of Bangladesh, including inter-regional trade, more efficient transportation, and easier movement of electricity and natural gas, and as a result has significantly advanced Bangladesh’s socio-economic status over the years.
